Canna cóla nó Sneachta?

I once got told off for drinking a can of Diet Coke.
“There are so many preservatives in that! Rats probably crawl on the can.”
The same person also used to scold me for eating too much beef.
“The poor cows! Do you know what they’re fed?”
Now, they weren’t wrong. Diet Coke isn’t exactly kale juice. And yes, cows probably deserve a better life.
But this was also the same person who was doing lines of coke off a toilet seat in a nightclub.
If you're snorting carcinogens, rat piss and too many cows in the same house are the least of your worries.
Fast forward to when I was writing this — I’m highly caffeinated, endorphins buzzing, I watched my 6:15 and 7:15 a.m classes smash some burpees and calories like the beautiful humans they are. And it got me thinking…
We’re all guilty of prioritising the wrong things.
Counting every single calorie, then downing 20 beers on the weekend.
Spending months only doing strength work, but skipping metcons — and then being surprised when the Open humbles us.
We lose sight of what actually matters.
Here’s the truth: your training isn’t your life — it’s just a part of it.
And if your whole mood depends on whether you hit a lift or not, it might be time to recheck your priorities.
For me?
Training sits near the bottom of the list.
Do I love it? Absolutely. It makes me feel alive, keeps me sane, helps sort out all my thoughts, and it’s a huge part of my job.
But above that are the real things that matter:
Being a good partner, son, and brother.
Showing up for friends.
Running my business.
Eating well.
Continuing my education.
Then, after all that, comes training.
When you start to order your priorities properly, everything clicks.
It takes the stress out of the small stuff — and that calm trickles down into every part of your life.
If healthy eating is one of your priorities, break it down:
Cut back on alcohol.
Ditch added sugar.
Cook more of your own food.
Eat your greens.
Then maybe we can worry about counting calories.
Stop with the sneachta before you worry about intermitting fasting.
The goal isn’t perfection — it’s perspective.
Get clear on what really matters, stop stressing about what doesn’t, and you’ll not only train better… you’ll live better.
You'll feel more in control by prioritising whats important and focusing on things that matter.
